Your marathon weekend in Riga

Please find some last-minute tips from the organizers regarding your running weekend in Riga, including suggestions for a nice pre or post marathon run. We want you to enjoy our marathon and the City!

Looking for that final easy run in Riga?

Beautiful Riga panorama

For all those wishing to see the beautiful panorama of the UNESCO heritage Old City, here is a suggestion of a good run. Although the whole route is quite long, we suggest doing only the first couple of kms, starting exactly as indicated from 11.Novembra Krastmala, crossing the bridge, getting on to the AB dam on the right and back. Make sure to do it early morning while Riga is waking up. Unforgettable!http://sportstracker.nokia.com/nts/workoutdetail/index.do?id=973832

Mežaparks (meaning Forrest Park)

This is one of Riga’s largest parks and also the place for Nordea Riga marathon’s International Breakfast Run on May 22, Saturday at 10.00. Feel free to enjoy your run here anytime though. Again, recommended in mornings. Getting there: Tram No.11 or taxi. http://sportstracker.nokia.com/nts/workoutdetail/index.do?id=938739

Ever wondered what Latvia’s beaches look like?

Take a train to Bulduri or Jūrmala (about 30 min from Riga Central) and have a short run along the beach. The sand is quite flat and hard here, so you will enjoy it. We have done a couple of runs ourselves and we like it!

Lunch & dinner?

For the full list see http://www.anothertravelguide.com/eng/europe/latvia/riga, but below are our favourites.

Budget place

LIDO – Latvia’s budget restaurant chain. There are several options in the City centre, like this one next to the Cabinet of Ministers http://www.lido.lv/lat/uznemumi/edinasanas_uznemumi/vermanitis/) as well as a huge complex in 15 minutes by taxi http://ac.lido.lv/.

Medium priced

Osiriss – a classic Riga place. We’ve spent lots of time planning the marathon here. Latvian influenced international cuisine.

Muklājs – Latvian cuisine and a great selection of single malts, bourbons, armagnacs, cognacs. By all means have a chat with the owner chef. Recommended after the race.

Luxury

Vincents http://www.restorans.lv/page.php - great food, great wine list, and a very nice chef making sure all his ingredients go through the SLOW FOOD philosophy. If you want to celebrate your PB in style, then this is the place.

Still looking for a hotel? Close to the start?

Our official partners – Reval Hotels http://www.revalhotels.com/lv/hotels/Latvia-Riga/Reval-Hotel-Latvija/Business and Islande hotel http://www.islandehotel.lv/?lngv=lv are good choices.

Reval Hotels will be hosting Marathon EXPO, while Islande will be hosting our Pasta- party. The hotels are on different sides of river Daugava, but both are within 15 minutes walk from the start/ finish area.

Have a good stay in Riga!
